Wow! I didn't realize how long it's been since the last post. Things have gotten kind of crazy and I haven't had time to do much tatting. Am hoping to get going again really soon. I've got a project I want to start and hopefully will be able to do. Take care all my followers and hope to have you some eye candy real soon!

25 Motif Challenge

Here is #1 of my 25 motif challenge. I got this pattern on Beverly's website www.bellaonline.com
I believe the way I received this pattern was through the online tatting group, but not for sure. Anyways, I printed it off, and then tried to go back to the site while I was working on it cause I didn't have a pic to go by. Well, I couldn't find it. lol
I tried to follow Beverly's instructions, but I messed up,,and had already had to restart it three times, so there was no way I was going to start over again. lol Anyways,,this is what I come up with. I don't remember what the pic looked like so Beverly I hope I done ok with your pattern.

Design Tat Lesson 8
I am finally about to get caught up on my lessons. The next lesson was to use whatever Ring count we used in our design and make a cloverleaf and trefoil. Of course I can't use the same Chain count as in my design but this is what I came up with.

Some people call both of these cloverleafs or trefoils but usually when the outer rings are smaller than the middle it's called a trefoil. I am learning so much, when I heard my fellow tatters talking about trefoil in a pattern I had not a clue to what they were talking about. Now I know. lol

Revised Design
In my design tatting group Sharon suggested to me to change the outer rings. I took her advice and did the small, small, large, large as she suggested. I also enlarged the center ring that attaches to the first round. I am so pleased with the results. Thank you Sharon!! You're a great teacher!

Failure with Success....Finally!
Well, as you can see another failed attempt. So I took the pic then cut it off the motif. I refuse to be defeated. LOL!!

I got so excited over this trial piece. I done a few different things to it to decide what looked better. Finally , I think I will be able to make something with this.

Excitement going on here,,I am doing the happy dance. I finally was able to come up with my first design. How awesome is that!

Design Tat
I had just joined the Here Be Tatters group when Sharon decided to start lessons on learning how to design your own tatting. Of course I jumped right on in cause that is something I definately want to learn to do. It has been really fun. The only problem is my limited knowledge of tatting. I will learn this though.Lesson 1 consists of looking at a pattern and deciding what stitch count to use. Of course we found out there is no right or wrong answer cause we are all the designers and it will be what we want it to be. lol Here is my first lesson.

These are just the few I actually got pics of. I usually just cut them off and start again. I refuse to be defeated. LOL!!! We will be learning to use a computer program to design with. Maybe I will have better luck with that. Oh Yea,,Lesson 4 is writing out your pattern in short version and long. I believe I can do that just fine if I can ever come up with a design. Well, now I got caught up with my blog. I have been wanting to get this done for a while now. Will be lots easier keeping up with my posts now. Time to get busy designing again. Hopefully will come up with something good this time.
Lesson 2 consist of seeing the differences in looks when you join at the waist, above, and below the waist. The differences in how many picots used, and the differences in the stitch count. Below are my samples I done. Lesson 3 consist of everyone doing the first round a certain way, and then adding a second row to it of your own design. This is where I've been stumped. Remember I told you I would be adding the good , the bad, and the downright ugly...well here it is. lol

Beginnings
I had to go look here and find out exactly when I first started learning to tat. Looks like January 17,2009. I had won the needles , threads and books and started learning. Once I joined the online tatting class I realized most of all the patterns consisted of using shuttles. I had tried and tried to use a shuttle to no avail. It was very frustrating. Then I purchased this book,,and wowzers did that dvd show me what I was finding difficult to understand. If anyone is new to shuttle tatting you need to get this book with the dvd. Everyone kept talking about when the thread flipped,,I was always what the heck do you mean. lol The first watching of this dvd I saw immediately what everyone was talking about.
The first class consists of learning to wind the shuttle, making the double stitch. Class 2 teaches you how to make rings and picots. Below are lessons 2,3,and 5. Lesson 2 looks just like the Hen and Chicks except being joined. You know on the Hen and Chicks you work the egg, chick, egg, hen, egg, chick then you don't join and start over again. This one you join every ring to each other. I like this version better. You can see my Hen and Chicks above, just click on the word here and it will take you to it. Lesson 3 teaches you to make consecutive rings. You can see my attempts with the butterflys below.Lesson 4 teaches you Ring and Chains, teaching you about reversing your work. Lesson 5 teaches using 2 colors as you can see in my examble below.
This is about as far as I got in my shuttle tatting lessons, there is still learning how to make a Lark's Head Knot, Correcting Mistakes,Rings Above Chains(which I do know how to do,,just haven't done the class yet with this instructions. Then the book has advanced tatting lessons which consists of split ring. I had done a couple examples of but spilled coffee on them and had to throw them away. Will need to redo those so I can get pics. bummer.... then the dreaded split chain. I have tried,,but so far no luck there. I will keep practicing though. Lesson 8 has you making a doiley using the split chain. You learn shuttle join, mock picot, and the last lesson teaches you to front side tat. So I still got some playing and learning to do. Will post more as I get them done.
